Australian microbrand Erroyl is now
taking pre-orders for their second watch. I reviewed their
inaugural release, The Royal, earlier this year and liked its elegant,
conservative style and attractive price. They promise to reprise these
values with the sporty, triple-calendar Regent.
The Regent displays the same
tastefully restrained style we saw on the Heritage series. Applied stick
markers and faceted dauphine hands grace a sunray guilloche dial. The
case is 42mm wide and 12mm thick, which should prove easily wearable on
most men's wrists and sufficiently low-profile to slide under a shirt
cuff. Photos show intriguing details like a conical crown, oblong set
button, and an ornate stamped case back. Inside, the Regent runs a
Miyota 9122 automatic with day, date, and month displays. This 26 jewel
unit hacks, hand winds, and hums along at a smooth 28.8k bph.
There are three models from which to choose: the
Aurum (rose gold plated), the Luna (white dial, blue hands), and my
personal favorite, the Nero (black reverse panda). Prices start at $499
AUD during the pre-order period, or about $359 USD. The regular pricing
will start at AUD $625, or about $450 USD. The strap is Italian crazy horse leather, tapering from 20mm to an 18mm butterfly deployant clasp. During
the pre-order period, Erroyl is also offering additional black or dark
brown straps with steel clasps for AUD $30 ($22 USD), and AUD $35 ($256
USD) for the rose gold deployment buckle.
Of
course, a sporty watch must be ready for some activity, and the Regent
does not disappoint. It has a sapphire crystal with an internal
anti-reflective coating and is rated for 100m water resistance.
